Saddle Mountain Guides
and Outfitters >> Mule Deer
Arizona offers some of the best mule deer hunting in the western
U.S. There are areas within the state that have tremendous genetic quality
and are capable of producing some absolutely huge bucks. We have focused
our efforts north of the Colorado River on the infamous North Kaibab plateau,
state units 12AE & 12AW. The North Kaibab is a land of legends and can
also be one of much frustration. We have spent many hours there and have
learned a lot about the uniqueness of the land and the habits of the mule
deer that populate this area.
Let me give you some simple facts about the Kaibab that may help you
understand WHY WE ARE the outfitter of choice for success in these units:
- The North Kaibab is over 1200 sq. miles of varying terrain ranging
from 9000 ft. to 5000 ft. elevation.
- It is a migratory range for Mule deer. Knowing the routes and channels
the deer take, and the timing of the transition periods is extremely key.
- High nutrition feed areas; good water sources and natural habitat protection
is key to BIG antlers. Understanding the location of these hot spots can
save you a whole lot of time.
- Mother nature can be the overriding factor to any hunt. Sudden weather
changes and shifts occur frequently, especially during the hunting seasons,
and can significantly affect rut cycles, migration routes and behavioral
patterns of mule deer. Knowing how and when to adapt your hunting techniques
and locations is very important.
We understand all of these things extremely well and we believe better
than anyone else (except maybe Todd Buck who is the Az. Game & Fish
wildlife manager for the North Kaibab, and a close friend and associate
of ours). Our success rate on booked hunts is 100% since 1992!!!
We will consider guiding mule deer hunts in other units of the state,
and will be more than happy to talk to you about your specific interests
if you draw a tag. Again our primary focus is on the North Kaibab as we
do not want to dilute our knowledge and time spent in this fantastic mule
deer hunting area.
There are multiple hunts offered each year in the North Kaibab, including
youth hunts, rifle, archery and muzzleloader. If you have any questions
regarding priorities for the draw application process, please feel free
to contact us and we will be happy to help you out.
Remember our motto….TBBYC…Trophy Bucks & Bulls..Your
Choice!
Good Luck & Happy Hunting!
